Sawdust Charley - The Vista Garage

Recorded in spring of '78

The Vista Garage tape was recorded in ’78 after Ehrke had hitched his wagon to another star, and Dondlinger had moved back to Wichita.  That left three: Dobbin, Ratzlaff and Webb who were still writing songs, and these were captured live….guess where…in Ratzlaff’s garage in Vista, CA on a two track reel-to-reel tape recorder. Songwriting credits are:
  • Sorry J. Ratzlaff
  • Touch and Go – J. Ratzlaff
  • Calmer Sea – D. Webb
  • Daredevil Lover  – G. Hopper / J. Ratzlaff
  • Hot Nights – J. Ratzlaff
  • Molly – J. Ratzlaff (guitar solo – J.Ratzlaff-04/15/2020)
  • Where Would I Be (Without You) – D. Webb
The last two songs on this album were written in Vista, CA, but done after the breakup, so we weren’t sure where to put them. This is the only version of Doug’s song “Where Would I Be” so it should be SOMEWHERE. These are interpretations by C. J. Kelley and were used for a vocal audition.
