The Rest Of The Story

The Funtones

In Wichita, Redshirt eventually came to a close. Dobbin, Dondlinger and Jim Kent went on to form The Funtones with bassist Phil Snow. The band played around Wichita from Oct. 31, 1988 till Nov. 27, 2015. That's 27 years! In 2003 they transitioned briefly into a horn band under the name The Fabulous Funtones and added two more members. But after just a short stint they returned to a 4-piece combo. They also had two other drummers through the years besides Dondlinger; Steve Brasswell and Jim Wood.

The Funtones had the privilege of opening for the following well-known acts: Mitch Ryder, Johnny Rivers (x2), Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, Paul Revere and the Raiders, The Grass Roots, Little River Band (x2), and Chuck Negron of Three Dog Night. They also opened for, and then were the back up band for Peter Noone of the Herman's Hermits.
